And that was my Labor Day weekend in a list of drinks I consumed.  It was fun, and stressful, and hectic, and heartbreaking, and a bit drunk.  Or a lot drunk.

Who really knows.

Ten on Tuesday!  Link up here!

1. What temperature do you keep your thermostat on during the day?
I think the house is set to 78*

2. What temperature do you keep your thermostat on at night?
I think the house is set at 72*

3. In a canister of mixed nuts, do you pick out certain varieties and leave the others?
I don't eat any nuts actually, so this canister would not be with me.

4. What is your favorite kind of M&M?
Despite what I just said, I love peanut M&Ms.  Delicious!

5. How do you buy books? (Amazon, bookstore, new, used, electronic, etc)
Usually Barnes and Noble, in-store only.  I rarely purchase books online.  With Borders going out of business, I've purchased a ridiculous amount of books lately (enough where I'm looking for a second bookshelf. Seriously. I haven't seen my desk in 4 months).  But I also do not purchase hardcover books, so if something comes out and I'm impatient, I'll download a PDF file or something from the internet to read on my iPad.

6. How do you like your eggs cooked?
Scrambled or overhard.  Depending what I'm eating it with.  With lots of pepper and hot sauce (Cholula!)

7. Can you whistle?
I can!  Not too well, but I can.

8. What common word do you always misspell?
I found out that I've tragically been misspelling melancholy wrong my entire life.  I'm not sure that's 'common,' but it's enough to make me sad.

9. Are you afraid of flying?
Not at all!  I love it!

10. How often do you go shopping?
Too often now that I'll be unemployed in a week!  I grocery shop maybe once every two weeks (the perks of living with your parents), and even then it's nothing major -- as for shopping for fun, I'll maybe go out and browse once a week, but I really only buy something once a month, if that.  And even then it might be like a $4 bracelet from H&M (not that I bought that on Sunday...Imeanwhat?).

Ok, two month recap: GO!

Monday, January 17, 2011

Dear blog,

I miss you. It has been entirely too long since we've seen each other, and I regret that. I really do. It feels like I'm missing my friend.

Really, it boils down to two reasons: winter and holidays. Christmas was fun and hectic, if not a bit strange. I worked for the first time ever during a Christmas season, which is something I most definitely did not enjoy. I had zero time and zero thought and it felt like a very incomplete holiday.

My office also had a holiday party of dune buggying and ATVing, in which I learned something about myself: I am a weak, weak, wuss of a woman. Really. I plan on blogging about it later.

The New Year was good as well, if not as stressful as Christmas. Worked again, but I did play a lot too. Went out with three of my girlfriends and met up with one of my work boys and his friends, which was an increeeeeedible adventure. None of them had met but each had heard so much of the other..I was incredibly nervous. But it worked out well!

Recently (as in, last weekend), I went to Big Bear! I was going to go snowboarding, but I am unfortunately sick so I decided not to - if I can't breath when I'm just sitting on a couch, i really shouldn't try to snowboard for the first time, either. But I did go sledding for the first time in my life, which was AMAZING. I was terrified because I hate steep hills that are basically drops...my bro's gf almost had to push the sled to get me to go down the first time, but i survived and realized that it's pretty damn awesome.  I still scream bloody murder every time I go down the hill, but I enjoy it at the same time, too.

There were 24 of us crammed into a cabin, by the way.  I brought one of my best friends, two works friends, and it was my brother, his friends, and their cousins.  So many people, lots of names and faces, plenty of beer, Taboo, sick germs, little sleep and a 10-year-old playing beer pong.  I'll tell more details later, but suffice to say it was one of the most chaotic weekends of my life.

And this past weekend I did something I've actually never done before in my entire life: partied three nights in a row. And holy everloving Lord am I paying for it now at work...ugh.  Friday was the belated office holiday dinner combined with the Good-bye Dinner of our departing coworkers (which makes me incredibly sad because he is one of my favourites) - we went to a Brazilian restaurant called Rei Do Gado, infamous for the waiters who walk around with all different types of meat on skewers and who will cut and carve directly onto your plate.  Fucking fab food, incredibly delicious, but I gave up after one plateful - so much, too much.  After we went to East Village Tavern Bowl, a bowling alley/sports bar, which was incredibly awesome.  I am a not-so-secret bowler, so that was fun to pull out on all my office men--and it was so much fun to just bowl, have some beers, and hang out.

After that, my two bosses left, so I was with the "young" men of the office--who promptly called up some of their guys and were like, "Ok guys, lets get our bar on!" And we bar hopped for the rest of the night.  And let me tell you, being the only girl in a group of 6 guys who are gettin' their flirt on...it's not as enjoyable as it would seem. Every single guy I was with is some sort of combination of super attractive, super charming, super flirty, super nice, and super outgoing.  So, they're all checking out girls and hitting on them and making obnoxious and obscene comments to me, no matter how kindly or how many times I had to remind them that while I appreciate their comfort around me, I AM NOT A GUY AND NO, I WILL NOT CHECK OUT THE GINORMOUS RACK ON THAT BLONDE BIMBO.  Fuckin' bros.

The upside was that I did happen to be with some of the more attractive men in the bars we were in, so lots of looks, lots of girls who gave me a jealous look, and the men all bought me drinks - I didn't pay a damn dime the entire night, and I had 3 shots of tequila, 2 shots of whiskey, and a boatload of beer. So...as much as I did not like being privy to the male mind that night, there were some benefits I can't deny.

Anyway. So that was Friday, and Saturday was one of my best friend's boyfriends birthday, so we went downtown to bar hop and celebrate; and Sunday was a girls night out that ended up featuring my work friend again and his friends.  It was super fun and we went to a Dueling Piano bar and I think I fell in love 25 times over with one of the piano players.  Once again, way more beer than I should have had, way more shots than I should have had, and so much fun.

....and that is the basic gist as to why I have been ignoring you, dear blog.  Forgive me <3

Best of 2009 Blog Challenge, Day 5: Night Out

2009 was a big year for me in the fact that I actually went out with my friends. The first part of the year was devoted to the Italians, and I attempted to keep up with that wave when they left. I was doing pretty well until I moved back with my parents, but I'm ok with that. I've had many a night out that was memorable for so many reasons, and as much as I love me my Italians, the most memorable of 2009 has to be one of the nights with the girls.

Photos don't exist of it, sorry...mostly because a lot of us are trying our best to forget it.

It was early June, and myself and 3 of my best girl friends from high school decided to go out downtown to celebrate one of our birthdays. We'll call the birthday girl K, R will be the girl whose house we were staying at, S will be the driver, and E will be the roommate of R. Got it? Good.

So, K's birthday. We started out pretty damn well, bar hopping and having a grand ol' time. We hit up Double Deuce, the most awesome country bar in Downtown San Diego that does actually have a mechanical bull. So much fun, so many good stories, lots of dancing and some drinks were going around. Me, K and S weren't drinking much (as we never do), and R and E were drinking their share, our share, and more (as they always do). We decide it's late enough, we're good, it's time to head home and continue our party there.

Now, R/E do not live in the um...safest...of parts. It's not like we were getting shot at at every stop light, but it's not somewhere 5 girls all gussied up should be at by themselves. We're driving home, no more than 1/3 of a mile from the house, and...BAM.

We hit a curb. I can't even explain how S hit it because...well...there are a lot of factors that shouldn't even have been, but she hit it. And somehow managed to pop both her right-side tires, break her front axle, and fuck up the alignment on her car. Here we are, 5 girls in dresses and heels on an unlit stretch of road in a bad spot, 2 of whom are drunk as a skunk, 1 is crying her eyes out trying to get to insurance, and the last 2 are lost about what to do.

It's not a good memory. There was a lot of fighting and yelling and crying that night between certain pairs of the girls, and it resulted in one friendship that will never, ever be repaired. But it is definitely the most memorable, since we were accosted by a group of asian guys in a rice rocket trying to pick us up on the side of the street, who then threw something at our windows (effectively cracking it and messing up the mechanism) when we turned them down. There was also a cop involved.

We're all fine in the sense of health and sanity (or at least restored to what we were), and most of us look back on the night and laugh at the absurdity of what happened. But its deeeeefinitely something I will always think of with this year.

About Me

My photo
I'm fairly obsessed with penguins, Peanuts (the comic), and the TV show Friends. Parentheses may or may not be (over)used in this blog, and books will pretty much be the only thing I ever talk about because they are my One True Love.
